intrepidbrooklyn:

why not open it FRIDAY for the glorious weekend that’s on tap? Still, good news regardless.

New Gov. Island ferry coming to Pier 6 [the word on columbia street]

A couple weeks ago, the Governor’s Island Alliance, the Brooklyn Bridge Development Corp., and the Port Authority announced a deal to establish a new Governor’s Island ferry service at Pier 6 - which is within easy walking distance of our neighborhood at Atlantic Avenue (near where the B63 parks)

A post from the Gov. Island Alliance site says:

The Brooklyn Typology Project [Digital Urban]
The subject of continuous residential development since the mid-1600s, every trend in American architecture and urban planning has inscribed itself onto Brooklyn’s moraine and salt marshes. Brookyn Typology is an investigation of borough’s population and urban form. It consists of 2100 photographs taken in a sample of blockgroups in Brooklyn, plus detailed Census, historical, and typological data about the residential and housing in area. Together, the interlinked photographs and data form a portrait of the urban fabric of Brooklyn.

Borough Hall Greenmarket 25th Anniversary Today [Brooklyn heights blog]

Nabe blogger Dave’s Kitchen reminds us that today marks the 25th anniversary of the Borough Hall Greenmarket… and there’s lots of fun planned (poster here):

Dave’s Kitchen: A reminder that the Borough Hall Greenmarket in Cadman Plaza is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year with a day long party this Saturday, 6/27. You can play CENYC’s Recycling Game; talk to a rep from Slow Food about…

mysterious brooklyn pharmacy to host goat roast
On June 20 from 2-9 p.m., a group of ambitious young farmers called The Greenhorns will host an event called the Goat Spit Summer Throwdown at the old pharmacy. A lot is planned for the day: a rough cut of Severine von Tscharner Fleming’s Greenhorns documentary will be projected on a wall. The operators of a 6,000-square-foot rooftop garden in Greenpoint will lead a workshop, as will Sam Comfort, whom Greenhorns coordinator Patrick Kiley describes as “the most radical beekeeper in the Hudson Valley, possibly the world.” Mayoral candidate Reverend Billy and the Church of Stop Shopping will make a musical appearance. Both the custom sound system and the goat roasting spit will be powered by bicycle, and Captain Lawrence beer will be served. Bitter green salad, light snacks, and espresso, too. Admission is $5 and includes a free beer.

Peter and the Wolf
In what promises to be a highly engaging event for families, the Brooklyn Conservatory Community Orchestra will collaborate with the outlandish clowning troupe The Maestrosities in two riotous performances of Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf, Rossini’s William Tell Overture, and Sibelius’s Finlandia. This is one ‘Crazy’ tour of South Brooklyn’s mob past
“When you walk down President Street today, it’s hard to believe that this is the place where the Gallo Gang waged a revolution against the Mafia,” said Tom Folsom, whose book “The Mad Ones: Crazy Joe Gallo and the Revolution at the Edge of the Underworld,” profiles the racketeer who was known as a cold-blooded killer — and a socialite with a penchant for Camus and Sartre.

She May Be a Crazed Hipster Grifter, But That Works For Her [mcbrooklyn]

Say you’re a normal, decent person who is having a little trouble finding a job or a relationship at the moment. Times is hard, right?

Not if you’re a crazed hipster grifter wanted on all kinds of charges in Salt Lake City. Just move to Brooklyn, get lots of boyfriends, land a job instantly, get into clubs, and keep writing checks on accounts that don’t exist but that’s okay — banks keep cashing them anyway.

Brooklyn-based street artist, SWOON is in the midst of launching her third fleet of “junk rafts” — crafted from construction site cast-offs and recycled scraps, these eclectic floats are a cross between a stage-ship and art-raft. These ships are envisioned, by SWOON, as a manifestation of “bits of land broken off and headed to sea.” Her third adventure/site-specific sustainability circus is entitled Swimming Cities of Serenissima
