A couple weeks ago, the Governor’s Island Alliance, the Brooklyn Bridge Development Corp., and the Port Authority announced a deal to establish a new Governor’s Island ferry service at Pier 6 - which is within easy walking distance of our neighborhood at Atlantic Avenue (near where the B63 parks)

Brookyn Typology is an investigation of borough’s population and urban form. Whether you know it or not, you probably already have some pre-walking routine established; for your daily commute, perhaps, or the ride to your favorite neighborhood?

For some people their pre-walking knowledge is a point of pride. It’s one of the many subtle ways new people acclimate to New York and make it their own.

Now, even that has been taken away from us. With this app even a tourist can pre-walk like a native New Yorker.

“This is the first time that something like this has been done on a large scale in New York City. Everyone has a little bit of data but no one has the entire puzzle,” says Jonathan Wegener, the app’s creator.
